Preparing for your child’s surgery

The idea of your child needing heart surgery can be scary. Leaving home to get the treatment they need can make things even more difficult. We know it is impossible to alleviate all your worries. However, we’ve put together some information that may be of use.

Children requiring cardiac surgery in Western Canada are often referred to one of two surgical sites in our network. We’ve created individual pages for each of them to assist you in preparing for surgery, planning any necessary travel, and more.

You are not alone

Have you recently been introduced to the world of CHD? Are you looking to connect with other parents dealing with similar challenges? Are you looking for other heart families in your area?

It can be difficult to process your child’s CHD diagnosis. We understand that you have concerns, fears, and questions, but we also understand that having a strong support system can assist. In fact, accessing social and emotional support is one of the most important things you can do for you and your family.

You Are Not Alone
