Dr. Andrew Mackie is a pediatric cardiologist at the Stollery Children's Hospital and a professor at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. After earning his medical degree from Queen’s University in 1993, he completed Pediatric Residency at Queen’s University and Fellowships in Cardiology and Echocardiography at Boston Children’s Hospital. He also holds a Master’s degree from Harvard University.

Dr. Mackie is an internationally recognized researcher whose focus is on (but not limited to) identifying and mitigating issues faced by adolescents as they prepare to transition to adult healthcare. His work is essential to ensuring that adolescents are properly informed, prepared, and equipped with the self-management practices required to make the move. These are important steps to preventing the obstacles and gaps in care that can be experienced as an adult congenital heart patient.

Dr. Mackie’s research has received substantial funding from prestigious organizations including the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Evans Family Research Team Grant in Pediatric Cardiovascular Health. He is also the recipient of numerous research awards, including the Annual Academic Colleague and Clinical Academic Colleague Research Paper Author Award (2019) and the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute Distinguished Researcher Award (2018). Dr. Mackie leads the Western Canadian Single Ventricles Registry (which is funded in part by WCCHN). As an active member of the WCCHN community, he has sat on both the research and database steering committees for WCCHN.
